From Garbage to Priceless
A single 12 inch (30 cm) long optical fiber strand is not worth anything, especially when it’s with billions of other similar sized strands strewn for miles and miles in a filthy city street gutter that’s filled with every gross and dirty thing. You and I are very much like one of those worthless filthy strands.
God Himself had originally created humans. They had even been created in His image, and God’s perfect character was seen as Light emanating from each of these creations.
God’s enemy tricked some of God’s creation into believing that they would have even more light if they trusted him instead, but when they did they were tossed into a filthy city-street gutter where they became dark, filthy, and worthless.
You and I were born in this gutter. Darkness, filth and dirt is all that we know, but God came in the form of Jesus and made a way for us humans to be restored as Light bearing fiber optic strands again. He has picked us up out of the gutter and washed us with the water of life. He has placed us into bundles (like fiber optic churches on a stand) that He has placed close to Himself, the Source of Light.
And once again we shine with His Light; we carry His character of love everywhere we go. What joy, we have work to do (The odd thing is, we don't have to work at this work because it will come naturally!). Jesus uses us to tell others the truth about God and His love, and to invite them to allow Jesus to rescue them from the gutter too.
Because of Jesus we are no longer filthy, worthless strands laying in a gutter. We are part of God’s kingdom!

You are the light of the world—[you are] like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.
