As I write this short blog my dad is on the verge of death. He has fought a good fight, and so I am at peace amongst all of this turmoil. My peace is because of his lifelong attitude of love for his God and knowing that I will see him again someday, but there is the deep, deep sadness too.
Death is not a good thing; it never has been and never will be. God did not intend for people to die, ever. Yet we do. Death is all around us, and so that raises the question, "If God did not intend for us to die, and if He is all powerful then why do we die? Is death more powerful than God?"
You and I have proven to ourselves that the Bible is true and can be trusted, so let's find our answer there. Revelation 1:18 says that Jesus (because He is the only One who was alive then dead, and is now alive for evermore) has the keys of death. That means that He must be allowing death here on this earth because we cannot look around us without seeing it.
Why then, if He has the power to stop it, is God letting it continue? Does He LIKE death now? There's got to be a good reason for God to allow death (including pain and suffering) to continue.
To answer this question from the Bible I have created the Theater of Our Universe Timeline and the text that goes along with it, and so I will direct you there for the details. In short though, it's because God wants ALL fear and doubt to be totally eradicated from His entire universe. God's whole government runs on love, but if there were any doubt left anywhere in all of His creation then the fear of God would be there too.
As I said, my dad is dying right now (probably just hours away). Jesus wants us to live, but His enemy (the devil) wants us to hurt and die. Death is the absence of life, and therefore it is not good! Why would anyone choose death over life?
"Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!"
